spectral iodine map

when data are contained the spectral information, due to the special iodine physical properties in the absorption of the X-ray quantum by photo-effect, the iodinated contrast agent could be discriminated from the other materials. Iodine map then shows the distribution of the iodine within the tissues, the map does not show the density fraction related to the other materials than iodine. The given voxel reaches the density only related to the iodine content. The iodine map could be used in the display of the contrast enhancement in the tissues – in inflammatory reaction, in highly vascularized tumors etc. The iodine map could be used to show the contrast material leakage in cases of bleeding.

case report

the imaging was performed due to the sudden pain in the right hypochondrium in a patient who had failed transplanted kidney. In the same time, the patine had a history of breast cancer and malignant melanoma. In the liver, there is a heterogeneous lesion that is inhomogeneously enhanced with the contrast agent and is partly formed by the hematoma. During the arterial phase, there is the spot of extravascular deposition of the iodinated contrast material inside intraparenchymal hematoma. The contrast agent flows from the lesion actively into the subphrenic hematoma. Other multiple hypervascularized metastases were present in lungs.  The source of malignant dissemination was malignant melanoma. A hypocoagulation state related to hemodalysis was involved in the development of bleeding. The iodine map shows the contrast agend leaked to the subphrenic space

arterial phase, the active bleeding from hepatic artery branch in sixth segment
portal phase, the iodinated contrast material occurred in the subphrenic hematoma
portal phase – iodine map, the iodinated contrast material occurred in the subphrenic hematoma
